Turn the plate, finish the meal
Hemianopia is a visual field loss on the left or right side of the vertical midline. The condition is caused by brain injury resulting from stroke, trauma, tumours, or infection. Patients only see half a plate and as a result, only eat half a plate. We created a plate with specially printed text that encouraged patients to turn the plate after they’ve finished one side. A project for Perkeso Melaka, in collaboration with medical specialists, and graphic designers.
What patients see

Patients with right hemianopia

Patients with left hemianopia
Patient’s plate after meals

Hemianosopia has nothing to do with memory loss. The patient just doesn’t see the back of the plate- in the same way that you are unable to see what’s behind your head.
